Chapter 9 – Through I'm neither poisonous nor medicinal, but I'll pick herbs

Thus, began Falco and Shou's life together.

“Do I have to learn swords after all?”

“It is bad to give up. You saw Doushi, right?”

“I saw him though”

“It's not just that he's big, he's a great swordsman”

“Certainly, he looked tough!”

He had a splendid body.

“You see, healers aren't just in the church. Rather, it's the apprentice level that's in the church, and the ones with power often follow the hunt. You saw Leon. Sometimes potions aren't enough to save him. You need him to heal as soon as possible”

“But I don't want to fight”

“Yeah, I know. Still, it wouldn't hurt to have a little something to protect yourself, now would it?”

“Maybe I'll become a chef or something”

“Even so, you have to do it. Healers are often forced to work a secondary job”

As such, Shou ended up training with the sword. But it's mainly bare swinging, and sometimes Falco will help me out.

When Falco wakes up in the morning and goes hunting, I'll have self-training for the sword, slime hunting, lunch, rest and prepare dinner.

My daily limit for a slime is 30 per day at each for 500 Gils, so 15,000 Gils a day. 90,000 gils a day for six days, and 360,000 Gils a month for four weeks with one day off. That's enough for two adults to live on. I asked Leon to convert it into cash, and Falco secretly kept track of it. It's a temporary custody until the spring, when Shou is registered with the guild and kept there. (TN: I use currency as “gils”. It was described as “ギル” in original source.)

Then, on the seventh day, Leon usually arrives with Doushi.

When Doushi and Leon came in together, most of the time they were training with Falco in sword training, since there was no need to hide the fact that his leg was healed. Shou and Doushi watch and quickly heal the one that was injured. Leon must have been quite strong, even with being away from sword long time ago, and it's interesting to watch as he fights evenly against Falco.

Shou learnt slowly how to heal from Doushi and even told Doushi about Leon's healing.

“I thought Shou had extraordinary healing powers”

“No, Sein-sama. I think it's a way of thinking. In Leon's case, I thought that if his left foot is forgetting his body's memory, then I should just mimic his right foot's memory. So let's see, technically Leon's left foot is now an inversion of his right foot, so it's not a real left foot. Still, I thought it could be left-footed depending on the training”

“That makes sense”

“If it's a symmetrical object, you can work around this idea, but if you look closely at the face, it's not symmetrical, right? For example, the eyes and other things may return to function, but they're not the same as before. And, you know, there's nothing to be done about one thing, like the heart” (TN: for those who wondering “Symmetrical” it is, it is term for thing that have exact same size with similar shape. For example- left leg and right leg)

“Nevertheless, if the healers acquire this mindset, the scope of what they can do to heal could expand in a whole new way, Shou”

“Use this idea as much as it is useful. And if someone who specializes in it studies it, it might give better results. But I felt like I used so much magic”

“That's a need to research there too. I'm hoping to get some results in another 30 years or so while I'm healthy”

By the way, I'm telling this conversation while sitting on Doushi's lap.

“It's going to be chilly out there watching them train”

and then he was placed me on his lap and wrapped up in his robe. I wonder if it's standard. Doushi and Leon also taught me how to collect herbs.

“Since we're in the North Forest, I had hoped you'd save some medicinal herbs for us, Falco”

“Guilds are always like that. But if I'm going to spend the same amount of time, I'd be more useful in hunting monsters than picking up herbs”

“Indeed. So, let's get Shou to remember that, right, Shou”

“Yup!”

I can finally learn. If there was a world of swords and magic, it would be the herbs. In the game, Shou liked to build a field and grow medicinal herbs and nuts. I couldn't tell what a joy it was to store 99 of them.

This world's herb resembled yomogi in terms of Japan. The jagged leaves were soft and small, with white hairs on the underside that crawled on the ground.

“Because this is winter, it's small and crawling on the ground. But even in the winter, monsters do occur, and the demand for potions is the same. The children do their best to get them by the city, but they're always in short supply. The North Forest is rich in medicinal herbs, but it's too dangerous for children to get to them, and it's not a good deal of work for adults. It would be nice if Shou could get some of them for us”

“I will do!”

“In this little bag, 500 Gils for a full pack. Not as efficient as that slime you're hunting, though. I don't care if it's a little less fresh. Even if it's just a bag a week, you can do it”

“I will!”

It's a drawstring bag the size of one hand. Still, it looks like it would be hard to fill it with little leaves. I kept 10 bags of them. Now I have something to look forward to!

The next day, after I trained my sword and reduced the slime hunting, I started picking herbs before and after lunch and in the extra time I had. The boundary of the hut is quite large. After putting on a warm and form-fitting yellow-green jacket, Shou stepped outside with a colander. The jacket was a beautiful color and the hood was my favorite.

“I look like some kind of farmer”

I started looking for the herb while feeling excited. I crouched down because I was crawling on the ground. I looked around and there it was! Or rather, the ground was full of medicinal plants. Although it was winter and the tall grasses were not growing, the ground underneath the grasses was covered with medicinal plants.

“Perhaps ......”

The place I walked in was also a medicinal plant. I was stepping on them. Shou sighed somehow and began to mindlessly pluck the medicinal herbs. I don't pull out the roots. I tear off the tips of the leaves and put them in a colander. It didn't take long for the pile to pile up, and one colander was enough to fill two bags. I left it as it was because it was damaged when I washed it.

“I'm only moving in a radius of about a meter. ......”

Even Leon got a faraway look in his eyes when I was handed ten bags of it over the weekend, and

“Yup, Shou. Ten bags a week, that's your quota”

he said and handed over a heap of bags. Oh, the quota is increasing even after the reincarnation. It's strange, Shou thought.
